ClearSign is a browser extension that analyzes legal documents such as Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policies, Subscription Agreements, and Terms of Service. The extension highlights potentially important clauses and legal risks to help users better understand agreements before accepting them.
ClearSign may identify:
- Auto-renewal and recurring billing clauses
- Forced arbitration provisions
- Data sharing and data selling practices
- Service termination rights
- Hidden fees and charges
- Dark patterns and manipulative wording
- Other potentially important legal conditions
2. Information Accessed by the Extension
When you choose to analyze a webpage, ClearSign may access:
- The visible text content of the current webpage
- The URL of the current webpage
- Links to related legal documents found on the page
- The website domain name
This information is used solely to perform the requested analysis and generate results within the extension.
3. How Information Is Processed
ClearSign performs legal clause analysis locally within your browser using rule-based detection methods.
4. Google Safe Browsing
ClearSign includes an optional security feature that checks the domain being analyzed against Google's Safe Browsing service to identify websites that may be associated with:
- Malware
- Phishing
- Unwanted software
- Other known security threats
When this feature is used, only the website domain or hostname may be transmitted to Google's Safe Browsing service. The contents of the webpage being analyzed are not transmitted as part of this safety check.

5. Local Storage
ClearSign stores certain information locally on your device using Chrome's local storage system.
- Most recent analysis results
- Risk scores and summaries
- Button position preferences
- Onboarding preferences
- User interface settings
This information remains on your device and is not transmitted to ClearSign.
6. Information We Do Not Collect
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Passwords
- Payment card information
- Banking information
- Government identification numbers
- Personal documents
- Account credentials
ClearSign also does not:
- Sell personal information
- Share personal information with advertisers
- Use advertising trackers
- Build user profiles
- Conduct behavioral advertising
- Track browsing activity for marketing purposes
7. Data Sharing
ClearSign does not share webpage content or analysis results with third parties.
The only external communication performed by the extension is the optional Google Safe Browsing domain reputation check described above.
8. Data Retention
Analysis results and extension settings remain stored locally on your device until:
- You clear them
- They are replaced by newer analyses
- The extension is removed
9. Security
ClearSign is designed to minimize data exposure by performing analysis locally whenever possible. Reasonable measures are taken to ensure that data processing is limited to what is necessary for the extension's functionality.
10. Children's Privacy
ClearSign is not directed toward children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
